Huntly; January 15th, 2014 – The year 2013 saw the linking up of two prestigious and proudly independent brands, the award-winning Black Bull whisky and the legendary Scottish motor racing squad Ecurie Ecosse. Both brands are steeped in history and heritage, and have won numerous accolades and reverence in their respective fields. Black Bull has been awarded ‘Best Blended Scotch Whisky in the World’ and has been awarded numerous gold awards from the most popular competitions and publications in the drinks industry. Ecurie Ecosse won the most esteemed motor race in the world, Le Mans, in 1956 and 1957, won the C2 World Sports car Championship in the 1980s, and won the British Touring Car Championship in the 1990s.
Andrew Smith, director and driver of Ecurie Ecosse said “Ecurie Ecosse and Black Bull are a perfect fit, both are world-class Scottish brands with a rich heritage and pedigree. The team had support from the whisky business when it was founded in the 1950s and so it is very fitting that we should be re-kindling this association now”.
“This is a very exciting time for Black Bull, and linking up with the Ecurie Ecosse team has been excellent experience so far. Both Black Bull and Ecurie Ecosse are very progressive in terms of the brand and the team behind the brand, so we see only good things moving forward.” added Andrew Shand, brand manager of Black Bull.
For the 2013 season, Black Bull held a title sponsorship position in the team with the logo adorning the front and sides of the car at all of the major races. To culminate a brilliant finish to the season, the drivers of the team were invited to the North East of Scotland in October 2013 to visit the home of Black Bull in Huntly. They received a taste of the Scotch whisky industry, and their visit concluded in an evening of sampling and selecting whiskies to be blended together for a limited edition blended Scotch whisky release, the 21 Year Old Racers Reserve.
“It was a privilege to visit Black Bull in Huntly and choose the single malt whiskies that have gone into this very special 21 Year Old Racers Reserve blend. We sampled many rare and unique whiskies from the Duncan Taylor Scotch Whisky vintage collection, in between visits to some of Scotland’s finest distilleries, and I hope connoisseurs around the globe will enjoy the blend of the driver’s favourites!” said Alasdair McCaig, director and driver of Ecurie Ecosse.
On the 21 Year Old Racers Reserve blend, Andrew Shand added: “It was great having the drivers up North to visit us in Huntly to create this exceptional blend. We laid out a number of samples from our finest casks, and the guys did a superb job in selecting the whiskies. I’m sure this blend will be a real treat for whisky and motor race fan alike”.
